Mission Statement

repo scaffolds Git repositories for C++, Go, Java, TypeScript (React frontend), and KiCad (electronics) projects, ready for spec-driven development with AI coding assistants. Every capability spec of the generator builds on this document; the target picture describes the generated repositories in detail.

Goals

  • Head start. Structure, build files, tests, and CI pipeline work from the first commit.
  • Uniformity. The repositories of a team or organization share one structure.
  • Specs first. A Capability Specification precedes the code; tests verify it.
  • AI support. Claude Code and GitHub Copilot follow the same guidelines as the developers.

Principles

  • Specs, not docs. specs/ replaces docs/: written before the code, not after it.
  • Lean specs. One Capability Specification per capability; the assistant derives only what is machine-readable or shared.
  • Few guidelines. Only the most effective best practices, such as Clean Architecture, written for humans; the assistants' rules are extracted from them.
  • Tools before rules. Whatever a tool can check, a tool checks.
  • Tests on every level. Unit, acceptance (BDD), and architecture tests; manual tests where no automation reaches.
  • Keep it simple. The simplest solution that meets a requirement wins.
